My Family | Build Day 3 | Harrogate Flower Show

The Paxman crew were exhausted yesterday after a full-on fence, slab and pointing session.  As content with hard landscaping as they are knee-deep in planting, our landscaping team have set to the stone quadrant, ready for the outdoor lounge seating area.

Is it time to relax with the family in the outdoor dining area yet? Almost, almost.

My Family | Build Day 1 | Harrogate Spring Flower Show 2016

It’s raining.

It’s cold.

It’s muddy.

It must be day one of the My Family Show Garden Build for Harrogate Spring Flower Show 2016!

The team have powered through all day – it’s certainly not been the easiest of starts, but we’re keeping the vision of My Family Garden in our sights.  Can we transform this soggy site into a Family Garden Spectactular? You bet we can!  The Paxman Family will be hard at it all week – cross your fingers for the weather!

Show Garden Harrogate 2016 | Sponsors | My Family

Show Garden Harrogate 2016Bringing My Family Show Garden Harrogate 2016  to life

If you’ve ever been involved in building a show garden, you’ll know the importance of collaboration.  This year, our My Family Show Garden Harrogate 2016 is no exception.  Once again, we’ve been lucky enough to enlist the help of some fantastic sponsors who are loaning or donating elements of the garden.  From plants to pergolas, fire pits to furniture – it’s couldn’t happen without their support.

“Thanks to all who have helped us, and continue to offer support, in the creation of  our “My Family” garden with the Association of Professional Landscapers”  – Justin Paxman

“My Family” will be showcased later this month at the Harrogate Spring Flower Show from 21-24 April.  The Paxman team, working in partnership with the Association of Professional Landscapers, are fine-tuning plans now, ready for the Big Build in a couple of weeks.

Without giving too many secrets away, the garden will be a blend of soft planting hues of blues, creams and purples contrasting with architectural grasses and ferns.  The plant selection echoes the warmth of the fire and mimics the coolness of the breeze through the spring and summer evenings.

We’ll be updating our Facebook and Twitterfeed throughout the preparations and during the Show, and our news pages will be bursting with progress once the Show build is underway.

Kirklees Apprenticeship Achievement Award: James Dickenson

James Dickenson AwardAwards success for Paxman Apprentice, James

We knew it already, but our very own James Dickenson can achieve anything.  In recognition of this, we nominated him for the Apprenticeship Achievement Award in the Kirklees Apprenticeship Hub Awards 2016.   And he’s only gone and WON IT!

The award celebrates the success of apprentices who have progressed within their organisation, and offers the opportunity to show off their high level of personal achievement.  The apprentices can be nominated by their employer or learning provider and awards are made based on commitment, hard work and achievements whilst being an apprentice.

Why did we nominate James?

James’ can-do attitude is a huge bonus for Paxman Landscapes.  James passed his Level 2 in Amenity Horticulture at Askham Bryan College.  He hit the ground running straight away by demonstrating his newly-acquired skills on a daily basis on site and applying the theory into practice.

Quiet and well-liked amongst his colleagues, James is able to contribute to plans and their execution on site.  His willingness to learn and apply new skills means he can take on new responsibilities, too.   James’ contribution to the creation of show gardens is immense – from start to finish.

Every landscape team needs steadfast, consistent and conscientious counterparts – and this is James.

James accepted the award at the Apprenticeship Hub Awards Ceremony at John Smith’s Stadium on Wednesday 23rd March.

Well done from all of us at Paxman Landscapes, James.

My Family Show Garden |Harrogate Spring Flower Show 2016

This time next month, we’ll be welcoming visitors to our My Family show garden at Harrogate Spring Flower Show.  This year, the Show takes place on 21-24 April  at its usual venue at the Great Yorkshire Showground.  The Paxman team, working in partnership with the APL, are in a frenzy of sourcing, selecting plants and pulling the final plans together.  We gave you a sneak peek a few weeks ago, well now we can let you know our plans in full!

My Family Show GardenMyFamilyLogo“My Family” is the latest showpiece from Paxman Landscapes.  The third successive creation at Harrogate Spring Flower Show, this year’s masterpiece will build on the award-winning concepts of the Skyline Garden 2015 and the Tropical Courtyard 2014.

Teaming up with the Association of Professional Landscapers (APL), the garden has the family unit at its core; an outdoor space to enjoy the company of your nearest and dearest, to dine, to relax, to build beautiful family memories.  The design concept leads Mum, Dad and the children from the evening alfresco meal down to the fire pit.  Reflect on the day’s events, laugh, share stories and build new memories – all under the stars with a glass of red or an orange squash.

We’ll be updating our Facebook and Twitterfeed throughout the preparations and during the Show, and our news pages will be bursting with progress once the Show build is underway.

APL Awards 2016 Commended: Hard Landscaping – APL Awards 2016

Before the event

A huge, hearty congratulations to all nominees and award-winners at the 2016 APL Awards, held today at The Brewery, London.APL Awards 2016 Category Logos-37

Our rooftop terrace at Capitol House, Leeds was commended in the Hard Landscaping category of the APL Awards 2016.  The refurbishment of a 1970’s podium terrace took a tired disused roofspace and transformed it into a stunning roof terrace garden for use by the tenants.  With a beautiful Grass Greener artificial lawn, the open space showcased the Paxman Landscapes team’s prowess in decking, paving, pebbles and gravel, as well as the installation of low level lighting for evening use.

Judged by a panel of key industry figures and experts,  the fact that the project and Paxman Landscapes were shortlisted is a brilliant Thank You to everyone involved.  The award was presented Arun Landscapes, with Paxman Landscapes receiving a commendation on their submitted scheme.  Representing the Paxman team at the Awards Ceremony, Justin Paxman said: “For our first time entering an industry award, we were just happy to have been shortlisted.  The opportunity to stand side-by-side with the industry’s top contractors and suppliers is a real boon for the Paxman team – a massive well-done to them all.”

Let the build commence | One customer’s journey: Landscaping Lepton

More than a wall | Private Garden Landscaping

Lepton Huddersfield Before | Private Garden LandscapingFollowing The Big Dig phase of a private garden landscaping project in Lepton, Yorkshire, the Paxman Team then set to work creating the walled areas across multiple levels.  We tracked their progress throughout the project.

Most of the materials were sourced from our local quarry Johnsons Wellfield from Crosland Moor.  This, in combination with Marshall’s silver birch copings,  created a striking partition for the garden, giving structure and continuing the use of traditional materials from the region.  The team had already carried out a number of smaller projects across the garden but the creation of a patio and water feature for the small family to enjoy was the focus of this winter project.

The garden’s slope, which was previously overgrown, now had levels, depth and character.  Access wasn’t great, but this, as ever, was overcome.  Add in the particularly hazardous surface when it rained due to the clay soil, and we had ourselves a proper landscaping challenge.  Nothing our crew couldn’t handle – and all this in just over a fortnight.
