PROJECT UPDATE: York University GP Surgery Heslington

Woodland Blocks and Tree Planting at York University Campus

Commercial and Retail Landscaping for CBM Construction

One of our latest commercial landscaping ventures has completed at the University Of York’s East campus in Heslington.  The new GP surgery and retail centre, with a small supermarket and other smaller retail units, cafes and restaurants, will be open in 2018.  The 23,000 sq ft retail parade and doctors surgery replaces the old surgery on the West Campus and is a build project designed by Evans Property Group and constructed by CBM Construction Leeds.

The landscaping, provided by the commercial team here at Paxman Landscapes this during November and December 2017, included wildflower hydro-seeding and grass seeding.  Peppered around the parking and outlying areas, we have sourced and planted large trees for instant impact and hedge boundaries for a continuation of the natural themes.  These planting pockets are interspersed with blocks of woodland planting.York University East Campus Landscaping

The landscaping surrounds the East Campus, close to Field Lane and Badger Hill.  Its finished landscaping and visual impact were of utmost importance in making this newly-built retail esplanade a naturally blended aspect of the surrounding areas of green belt.

Salmon Fields Oldham PlanFrom the earliest inklings of this planting scheme, Paxman Landscapes have been centre stage.  Designing the scheme and planting specification for the industrial zone at Salmon Fields, Oldham, we are now on site and in full planting mode (March 2018).

MarshallCPD logoWith the groundworks complete and the topsoil in place, the woodland planting started last month (February 2018) on the scheme which is projected to complete in March.  Working with Marshall CDP Limited, our soft landscaping teams are completing the native woodland blocks around the infrastructure roads and entrances of the site.

PROJECT NEWS: Landscaping St James Business Park, Sheffield

Soft landscaping: Business Park, Sheffield

Paxman Landscapes are on site at a new retail park in Sheffield, in the throes of its soft landscaping completion.

Due to start opening its first units this Summer (2018), St James Retail Park is a new shopping park in the south of Sheffield.  Built on the former Norton College site, the scheme will house retail units including Aldi, Costa, TK Maxx and a M&S Foodhall.

The new £35m shopping centre in Sheffield is rapidly taking shape.  The 420-space car park will soon benefit from Paxman Landscapes soft landscaping input, with tree planting, native hedging and ground cover along its flanks and avenues.  There will also be a rain garden to improve drainage and appearance with natural planting.

How the finished solar farm will look (Image courtesy of CCEP)

Work started last month (January 2018) on the perimeter planting of a major new eight hectare solar farm near Wakefield.  Covering an expanse the size of twelve football pitches and harvesting energy to fuel local industry up to one and half miles away via underground cables, the panels have been installed in collaboration with the local landowner and Spanish solar specialists, Grupo Zaragozá.

How the site is developing (February 2018)

Paxman Landscapes are finishing up on site now with their focus on boosting and creating a native perimeter.  Woodland and copse planting, native hedgerows and shrub underplanting will be punctuated along its framework with feathered and select standard native trees including Alnus glutinosa (Common alder), Quercus petraea (Sessile Oak), Quercus robur (English Oak) and Sorbus aucuparia (Mountain Ash)

Young plants will be protected from pests and the grazing sheep that will maintain the land’s dual use.  The landscape team will also create new areas of grassland and wildlife meadow from seed.

Following the landscape design and specification, our experts will prepare and cultivate the soil in readiness for planting.  As well as supplying and laying turf in areas across the complex, we will be supplying and planting numerous standard trees, complemented by underplanting and beds of shrubs and herbaceous borders.  Where the design allows, there will be climbing plants and coniferous varieties for structure and all-year-round foliage and interest for visitors and residents.
