Whilst our commercial soft landscaping teams are busy mass planting, turfing, seeding and placing large trees in larger scale projects, our domestic landscape team are busy creating beautiful gardens across West Yorkshire.

Design and build

One of our design and build projects was completed in October 2025 in Clayton West, a village in Denby Dale, Kirklees. A uniquely tapered outdoor space, the challenge for the design and construction of their garden also meant clever management of a steep gradient and the need for multi-level solutions.

Justin worked with the client to create a split-level, stepped landscape, paying careful consideration to budget as well as the family’s plans for the garden – for play, family dining and entertaining, and shaded seating to enjoy the new landscape

Hard and soft landscape in unison

The in-house design met the challenge head-on. Using retaining walls, platforms and steps, the resulting hard landscape was surrounded within its boundaries by mixed planting and climbers. The garden levels were constructed including:

• A new play area built using loose rubber crumb safety surfacing
• Retaining walls to frame and contain the garden
• Patio with inset wall lights
• Platform steps to provide access to new patio
• Timber bench seating with timber pergola and climbers for seating at rear of garden
• Mixed planting to blend and soften
