The Charging Oasis: Be.EV Manchester
Manchester now has its first Charging Oasis. A ground-breaking development in many ways, the public EV charging station just off Oldham Road is the brainchild of Be.EV and is just one of the installations popping up across the UK.
J Paxman Landscapes were charged with preparing the soft landscaping in time for the big launch in June 2025. Helping to transform the outdoor space from a disused petrol station to its brand new guise, the team worked with contractor Spring and Co on a design by FFLO.
Community Launch Event in June 2025
The Charging Oasis was opened at its launch event and welcomed by its local community. The developers were keen to regenerate and repurpose the area and commended the landscape team for helping them get this wonderful project over the line.
Standing empty for over 15 years, the site’s borders and approaches are now full of shrubs, trees, grasses and perennials. As well as the 12 charging stations, the area has been transformed into a green community hub for residents, commuters and all EV owners using the charging space. There is also a Caffe Nero on site for a quick coffee stop.
The Planting
From raised planters to shady and sunny ground cover mixes of grasses, ferns and perennials, the Charging Oasis also features deadwood pieces to encourage invertebrates. Feather and multi stem birches add height and visual impact as well as housing nesting boxes for potential bat and bird visitors.
Bulbs have been planted in swathes up to 150 in number to extend seasonal interest and the standard birches, Sorbus and Malus trees add to the all-year foliage, bark and flower displays.
