Plot landscapes and public open space planting, Newsome

Mar 3, 2026

Twenty-two residential garden plots, public open space and a carefully selected palette of plants, bed-by-bed. This is one of the soft landscape team’s February challenges on a new residential housing development in Newsom, as the rain continues relentlessly.

Residential Planting

The plans are being followed to the letter, placing and planting bare-root transplants, whips and 10-12cm girth select standard trees amongst a palette of shrubs and herbaceous. This includes over 1000 hedging plants, supplied in 2 litre pots, to plant around the plots and public open spaces in the new development. The front and rear gardens were turfed and edged with hedging plants.

On site and planting from early February, the team will also complete turfing alongside their planting plans.  Shrubs and herbaceous have been planted through a membrane to reduce weeds.  These areas will be mulched and seeded with wildflowers.

Project Management

It is a carefully planned planting plan, with plot bed details and weekly schedules being worked to closely to meet the landscape specification. Planting continued despite the inclement weather and was completed in early March 2026. This was the first project managed by our colleague Tyler since he had obtained his site supervision accreditation (SSSTS).  Supervising and managing a 3-strong JPL team over 4 weeks, they followed the schedule closely, meeting the programme weekly and completing on time, ready for the tenants to move in.
