This commercial business park soft landscaping scheme was completed in December 2024 for BDB Design Build.

Just off the M1 in Rotherham, Harworth Group’s new HQ for their Italian-based group Danieli is a three-storey research and distributions facility. The surrounding parking and loading areas feature 73 car park spaces and vehicle charging bays and our delivery of a fully landscaped site across its 0.88 hectares.

Delivery, handling, planting and securing of large trees

Sourcing and managing the delivery and planting of large trees requires precision, care and attention, particularly when offloading and preparing the ground and pits for planting.  This scheme featured extra heavy standard trees including Acer campestre Elsrijk, Carpinus betulus Frans Fontaine, Corylus colurna, Pyrus calleryana Chanticleer, Prunus Avium plena as well as a semi-mature statement tree in a 20-25cm girth Sorbus aucuparia Cardinal Royal.

The car park and surrounds

Surrounding the visitor/employee car park and loading bays, the planting featured ground cover and ornamental shrubs, in foliage and colour variety and amenity turf around a break-out seating area for staff.

The boundaries

Smaller birches and pines peppered the boundaries and larger trees had ground cover and ornamental shrub underplanting. This featured the placement and planting of 3 and 5 ltr including ornamental grasses, bushy hebes, vincas, euonymus and vincas. A single species hedgeline was planted with each stem protected by tree guards, with a mixed species hedge and a more formal evergreen hedge screening the loading bay.

The planting was bark mulched throughout and careful attention paid to the retention of existing hedgerows and trees in the vicinity.
